Leon Gallée from HS Ansbach, Germany, Studying at USC

What would you say if you came from rainy Germany and got the opportunity to study at a place with a subtropical climate and 283 days of sunshine every year?

When I came to Australia I unfortunately missed the Orientation week because of exams that I still had in Germany. The feeling of being a little bit lost in the beginning disappeared quick when I made some friends at a BBQ. Socialising was so easy. Most of the students are super friendly, open-minded and know how to party. The weekly parties at Varsity and later at the Helm is something that I’m going to miss. Prepare for some fun nights guys.

Besides from partying and laying on the beach, I also had to study.

The whole structure of the semester is different to what I am used to in Germany. I had to study a lot more during the semester like writing assignments or having tests which only count 5% of the whole grade. However, when it comes to the final exam, which was worth 40% of my grade, it is so much more relaxed going into it.

Overall, I really liked the USC because it is very new and has very well-equipped Laboratories.

Finding a good accommodation on the sunshine coast is very easy compared to Germany. I lived in Alexandra Headland, which is not far away from the beach. It was easy to find, better equipped and cheaper than the on-campus Student Accommodation.

If you study at the USC longer than one Semester, I recommend not living in one of the on-campus Student Accommodations.

Overall, I really loved the time on the Sunshine Coast.

If you want to study in Paradise, this is the place.

Cheers

Leon
