Leaving home to become a freshman in college, sets up a set of nerves. Freshman year going from New York to Maryland was unbelievably rough, especially to be away from home and not knowing anyone. However, making new friends and starting over, always gives me butterflies in my stomach.
Coming abroad, I thought it would be the same way. But it wasn’t. My first day here, I went to the USC bus station and I immediately created bonds with people from all over the world. The sense of trying something new at a different place is something I would 100% recommend. It is totally out of my comfort zone and I love it. Meeting people and travelling with them is something you can’t find everywhere, and experiencing something for the first time with people is something out of the ordinary.
I choose USC for the sunshine, the people, the experiences of a lifetime, and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. Australia is the best abroad spot, coming from the US. There are so many students going abroad to places all over Europe, but why not go to a place you might never get a chance to go to ever again!
Some tips for people coming to Australia for the first time:
- Try vegemite, lamingtons, Tim Tam’s, fairy bread, party pies and sausage rolls
- Explore the area whether it be hiking trails, beaches, or wildlife
- Travel as much as possible!!!
